The Kesho Initiative mobilises progressive Kenyans to transform the country’s political culture and envision a decent society—one that values respect, honesty, and hard work. It challenges citizens to think critically about Kenya’s past and present in order to shape a more just and responsive future.
Kesho operates through The Elephant and Uongozi Lab, combining digital platforms with community outreach to foster reflection, debate, and civic imagination. By engaging citizens in dialogue and knowledge creation, the initiative seeks to nurture a public sphere grounded in truth, dignity, and democratic values.
Knowledge Creation and Outreach
Kesho Initiative drives thought leadership and civic education through research, storytelling, and public discourse. It creates and publishes content that challenges neo-colonial and rentier narratives undermining democracy, while digitising and cataloguing Kenya’s intellectual and historical works. Through The Elephant and partner media platforms, Kesho amplifies voices that question power and provoke informed debate.
